0 Transition Strength Sums and Quantum Chaos in Shell Model States

چکیده
For the embedded Gaussian orthogonal ensemble (EGOE) of random matrices , the strength sums generated by a transition operator acting on an eigenstate vary with the excitation energy as the ratio of two Gaussians. This general result is compared to exact shell model calculations, with realistic interactions, of spherical orbit occupancies and Gamow-Teller strength sums in some (ds) and (f p) shell examples. In order to confirm that EGOE operates in the chaotic domain of the shell model spectrum, calculations are carried out using two different interpolating hamiltonians generating order-chaos transitions. Good agreement is obtained in the chaotic domain of the spectrum, and strong deviations are observed as nuclear motion approaches a regular regime (transition strength sums appear to follow the Dyson's ∆ 3 statistic). More importantly, they shed new light on the newly emerging understanding that in the chaotic domain of isolated finite interacting many particle systems smoothed densities (they include strength functions) define the statistical description of these systems and these densities follow from embedded random matrix ensembles; some EGOE calculations to this end are presented.

New Results on Quantum Chaos in Atomic Nuclei
In atomic nuclei, ordered and chaotic states generally coexist. In this paper the transition from ordered to chaotic states will be discussed in the framework of roto–vibrational and shell models. In particular for 160Gd, in the roto–vibrational model, the Poincarè sections clearly show the transition from order to chaos for different values of rotational frequency. Furthermore, the spectral st...

In atomic nuclei, as in other many–body systems, the classical phase space is mixed, so ordered and chaotic states generally coexist [1]. In this contribution we discuss some models, showing the transition from order to chaos. In several cases a clear correspondence between classical and quantum chaos has been established. In particular the transition from ordered to chaotic states will be disc...

In this paper a resonant tunnelling quantum well infrared photodetector (RT-QWIP) is discussed. Each period of this photodetector structure comprises of a resonant tunnelling structure (AlAs/AlGaAs/AlAs) nearby a quantum well (AlGaAs/GaAs). In this photodetector, photocurrent is produced when an electron makes a transition from the ground state of the well to an excited state which is coupled t...
متن کاملInvestigation of strong force influence on behavior of nuclear energy levels in Calcium and Titanium isotopes: Based on quantum chaos theory
The atomic nucleus is a complex many-body system that consists of two types of fermion (neutron and proton). They are in the strong interaction. The statistical properties of energy levels and influence of strong force between these fermions are well described by random matrix theory. Resonance of energy levels depends on the Hamiltonian symmetry placed in one of the GOE, GUE and GSE ensembles ...

We discuss the role of quantum chaos in atomic nuclei. After reviewing the basic assumptions of the nuclear shell model, we analyze the spectral statistics of the energy levels obtained with realistic shell–model calculations in the f p shell. In particular, for Ca isotopes we observe a transition from order to chaos by increasing the excitation energy and a clear quantum signature of the break...
